Outcry over missing O’ Level results in Mat’ North

There are also indications that there is no clear-cut procedure of linking the learners’ candidate numbers to the Continuous Assessment Learning Activity results.

STAKEHOLDERS in Matabeleland North have raised concern over missing Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Ordinary Level results in some schools in the province.

There are also indications that there is no clear-cut procedure of linking the learners’ candidate numbers to the Continuous Assessment Learning Activity results.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) Matabeleland provincial co-ordinator Never Nyaunzwi told Southern Eye that some parents whose children are affected have given up after some of them wrote examinations more than two times without accessing results.

Nyaunzi revealed that the schools that are affected are in Binga including Kalope Secondary School which experienced the same problem last year.

“This issue started last year when one of the parents came to my office to get assistance on how he could get the results of his child.

“I contacted the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council and finally the results were published after one week.

“I discovered that what could have happened is that the Continuous Assessment Learning Activity (Cala) for the learner who had supplemented his results could not be linked with the written examination,” Nyaunzwi said.

According to Nyaunzwi, Binga has more than seven candidates with missing results.

“I work with a parent (name supplied) who is not happy and is stressed that her child wrote in June 2024 and in November 2024 the same subject and results are missing,” he said.

Kelvin Moyo, the Victoria Falls Combined Residents Association chairperson,  said he was not aware of the issue of missing results.

“I am not aware, but I will make a follow up and investigate the issue, currently the O’ Level results came out last week, they started viewing them online last week but they will start collecting them from Monday.

“The results take long to reach us here physically because of the distance from the collection centre and due to the rainy season  those carrying such important documents are not encouraged to cross flooded rivers,” he said.

Moyo said Mosi-oa-Tunywa had an enrolment of between  800 and above 1 000 making it congested.

“We are in the process of building a school hall that can be used as an examination centre because we have a challenge when students are sitting for examinations as non-examination students are forced to do hot sitting,” Moyo said.

Zimsec spokesperson Nicholete Dlamini said cases of missing results were few, adding the affected students should submit their documents to their respective schools.

“It is not about their candidate numbers but if there is no Cala results, no results as well. The affected students should fill in grievance forms with all the details of the child at their school and it will be handed over to Zimsec, a follow up will be made so that the child can get his or her results after uploading from the system,” Dlamini said.

She said students supplementing their results should present their result slips so that they provide the correct details when registering.

“Every exam sitting has its own database. The details supplied should match the previous information regardless of a different candidate number,” she said.
