A BEITBRIDGE boy was left nursing serious injuries after he was bitten by a baboon in a case of human and wildlife conflict in the border town recently.
The images of the boy, posted on several social media platforms in Beitbridge, showed the boy with bleeding open wounds on his back and hands.
“Parents take heed, baboons have become more daring and dangerous,” a message accompanying the picture of the injured boy read.
“Brian Kapondora’s child has been attacked and rushed to hospital.
“We are appealing to Parks and Wildlife officials to assist.”
Baboons have been a menace in Beitbridge over the years and have, in some instances, entered people’s homes where they help themselves to food and beverages.
Women shoppers returning from Musina have also been attacked by the baboons, now intelligent enough to identify plastic bags from Checkers, Spar and Shoprite, Musina’s popular grocery outlets.
They target women when they cross the 472-metre long bridge.

“They stealthily approach women, snatch those plastic bags and quickly slip under the bridge. They rarely attack men, but can challenge children,” said Tinos Moyo, an airtime vendor who operates from the Old BeitBridge.
Another woman said she screamed and ran to some men when a male baboon charged towards her as she held a carrier bag of apples she had just bought.
Parks and Wildlife officials were not reachable by the time of going to print.
