A BEITBRIDGE child (6) was electrocuted in the presence of Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company (ZETDC) workers who were doing repairs at her home.
The workmen reportedly connected an earth cable to a water tap from which the late Nothando Vurayayi and her friend tried to drink water before she met her fate.
Her friend who tried to pull her was flung to a fence by electric power which was connected directly to test a faulty meter.
In an interview, Nothando's mother Ropafadzo Shoko narrated that her child was playing outside before she died.
“I heard her scream as she was stuck on the tap. The workers later freed her but she was already dead,” she said.
“They took her to the doctor where she was pronounced dead.”
The spokesperson for ZETDC Alaina Suliwa said she had not been informed about the incident.
“I am not aware of that incident,” she said.
