POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a murder which occurred on October 18 in Nkayi district.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said they had arrested Promise Ndebele (20) in connection with the murder of Josphat Sibanda (56) of Mdutshekelwa Village in Nkayi.
He said on the day in question, Sibanda was sleeping in his shack when he was attacked by Ndebele.
“A neighbour heard a sound of a door being damaged before hearing noise of someone being beaten up, but did not go outside since he was afraid until the next morning after the noise had subsided,” Ncube said.
Ncube said when the neighbour went outside to check what had transpired, he discovered that the door to Sibanda’s shack was damaged, with his blankets and some of his clothes scattered outside.
“He (the neighbour) also realised that Sibanda was not in his room. The neighbour summoned other residents in the squatter camp and conducted a search, but to no avail,” he said.
Ncube said residents teamed up to search for Sibanda in the bushy area around Killarney squatter camp and found him lying in a pool of blood about 40 metres from his shack where he was covered in tall grass.
“Sibanda had a deep stab wound on the left shoulder, a cut on the occiput and some bruises on the left side of the stomach,” he said.

Ncube said a police report was made and Sibanda’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post mortem.
He said the police made follow-ups leading to Ndebele’s arrest at his place of residence.
“Police would like to urge members of the public not to put the law into their own hands but try to find amicable ways to solve their problems.
“We also appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Xolani Moyo, Oscar Mlauzi and one Alex to report at any nearest police station,” he said.
