POLICE in Pumula have arrested two men in connection with stocktheft in Nyamandlovu and launched a manhunt for the third suspect in the case.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednigo Ncube confirmed the arrest of Jethro Dube (40) of Cowdray Park and Itai Gwasura (36) of Pumula East in the city.
He said on October 19 this year, police constabularies were having lunch in the backyard of a butchery in Pumula East when they saw a white Honda Fit entering the area and parking.
“The vehicle had three occupants who disembarked and opened the boot which was loaded with cattle carcasses. The police became suspicious and approached the driver to request for a permit,” Ncube said.
“The accused persons were unable to do so leading to their arrest, while Jaison Ndlovu, the third accused person, escaped. The motor vehicle, containing four hindquarters and ribs in the boot, was seized.
“Gwasura led police officers to his residence, where offals, two ox heads, approximately 50kg of steak and eight hooves were recovered.”
Ncube said when interviewed, Gwasura told the constabularies that Ndlovu and Dube brought the carcass from Village 4, Nyamandlovu’s grazing area to his residence.
“The two accused persons were taken to Nyamandlovu, where Dube indicated the location where they slaughtered two beasts. Gwasura was the driver of the vehicle and the registered owner of the vehicle was later identified,” he said.

Ncube urged the business community operating butcheries to adhere to the rules and regulations of buying and selling inspected beef from registered abattoirs than who resorted to buying uninspected stolen meat, putting the health of their customers at risk.
He also appealed for anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Ndlovu to contact ZRP Pumula or any nearest police station.
