Hit & run accident victim battles for life

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednigo Ncube

A BULAWAYO woman is in critical condition at a local hospital after she was hit by a car which did not stop after the accident on Monday.

The accident occurred at the intersection Khami and West Hand roads near Khami Cafe.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednigo Ncube said they have launched a manhunt for the motorist who was driving a Ford Ranger registration number AAE 8118.

“The motorist did not stop after the accident. However, another pedestrian managed to record the registration number of the vehicle,” Ncube said.

The victim sustained head injuries, a fractured left leg, left arm and right thigh.

He said her condition is critical and she is not able to speak.

She was wearing a white top, khaki trousers and pink cap at the time of the accident.

Police warned drivers against fleeing from accidents.

“It is an offence to fail to stop after an accident and even failure to report an accident within 24 hours is a crime. Motorists are urged to consider the safety of other road users including pedestrians,” Ncube said.

Police have appealed to any member from the community who is missing a relative matching the given description to report to Traffic West for assistance.
