Byo man jailed 15 years for raping disabled woman

A 39-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has been slapped with a 15-year jail term after being convicted of raping a woman with intellectual and physical disabilities.

The accused appeared at the Western Commonage Magistrate Court on charges of rape and theft.

He was sentenced to 15 years for rape and six months for theft. 

The court was told that the accused (name withheld) and the complainant used to see each other at a beer garden.

 On May 29, the man invited the complainant on the pretext of a beer binge and she complied.

He asked the complainant to accompany him to a nearby bush.

Upon arrival in the bush, the man pushed the complainant to the ground and raped her. After the heinous act, the accused stole the complainant's phone.

A police report was filed leading to the arrest of the accused.
