King Mambo anoints own Byo chiefs

THE LOZWI King Mambo, real name Mike Moyo, who was crowned in Mawabeni area in Matabeleland South province in 2019, has anointed eight chiefs and 11 assistants to rule in Bulawayo Metropolitan province.

The appointments were made on Saturday in Bulawayo.

“Congratulations to the new chiefs and assistant chiefs who were successfully anointed on August 10 by His Majesty King Mambo,” the Royal Mambo newsletter announced.

The new chiefs are Emella Ncube (Nkulumane) Jahanna Ngwenya (Emganwini), Elliot Moyo (Entumbane), Loice Mazuruse (Pumula North), Amos Sibanda (Barbourfields), Shamiso Marima (Cowdray Park), Caston Bimha (Mpopoma) and Micah Ndebele (Pumula East).

Efforts to get a comment from King Mambo were fruitless yesterday.

King Mambo last year expressed anger at being overlooked by the Bulawayo City Council in the renaming of roads in the city following threats by Lozwi kings to pull down King Lobengula Street plaques in protest.

The Lozwi clan installed Moyo as king of the Mambo dynasty as part of plans towards reviving its monarchy.

The Mambo King had questioned the council’s wisdom to, among others, name a street after King Mzilikazi whom he argued “is already honoured through a suburb, school and art centre”.

The Mambo Dynasty Trust, which was formed in July 2015, has been pushing for the revival of the Mambo kingdom, which collapsed in 1835.

The last Mambo Tjilisamhulu was installed in 1835.
