Chief Dakamela urges rural communities to empower girl child

NKAYI traditional leader, Chief Mbuso Dakamela, has urged rural communities to empower the girl child through sports activities.

In an interview with Southern Eye last Friday, Chief Dakamela said communities should desist from limiting the girl child in achieving her goals and support her endeavours.

“We are giving medals to Dakamela Primary School girls who represented the province in the national primary school games. We held a small party to appreciate our girls who have managed to put our district on the map,” he said.

“I urge rural communities to support the girl child in all their endeavours including sporting disciplines like what they do to the boy child.”

The Matabeleland North provincial team was represented by 17 players, with 12 of them hailing from Nkayi.

“The team consisted of 17 players, 12 were from Nkayi district and to be more specific, nine were from Dakamela Primary School. They have made us proud as a community and challenged us to dream big,” Chief Dakamela added.

“We are happy that our girls have shown that if they are given support, they can do better.”

He urged the rural populace to desist from seeing the girl child as a source of income.

“I urge the rural community to end child marriages and encourage the protection of the girl child so that they can have a better future,” he said.
