POLICE in Bulawayo are investigating two cases of baby dumping which occurred on Sunday, acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said.
“On July 9, at 12 noon, a male adult aged 54 years was coming from Nkulumane going to his place of residence. When he was crossing Phekiwe River, he observed a foetus floating in water. He then made a police report,” Msebele said.
She said the foetus was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem.
In the other case, Msebele said: “On the same day at 3:45pm, a male adult aged 51 was walking along a footpath near Raji Modi’s mall in Cowdray Park when he heard a baby crying from a nearby bush.
“He proceeded to where the sound of the baby was coming from and found a new-born baby girl approximately a few hours old wrapped with a black plastic paper placed in long grass.”
He then reported the matter to the police and the baby was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital.
Msebele urged members of the public who have information on the two incidents to report to the nearest police station.
“We are urging members of the public to accept the reality that might have befallen them and seek assistance from elders,” she said.
