BULAWAYO City Council (BCC) has started a road rehabilitation programme covering Herbert Chitepo Street and Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue.
In a statement, Bulawayo town clerk Christopher Dube said the roadworks would stretch for approximately 950 metres.
“The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public of the proposed Herbert Chitepo Street improvement works between Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue and 4th Street covering approximately 950m,” Dube said.
He said the works would consist of pothole patching, overlays and other maintenance work on the road.
“Works will comprise pothole patching, localised pavement reconstruction, overlays, storm water drainage improvement works, reinstating of carriageway markings, and other cyclical maintenance works,” he said.
Dube said the works would commence on September 2, adding that the works were necessary due to the current state of the roads.
He said the rehabilitation works would preserve the life of the road as well as promote safety for all road users.
“The works will commence on September 2, 2024 [and last] for approximately 90 days. Once completed, these works will prolong the life of the carriageway, improve road safety and ride quality.”

Dube said during the rehabilitation of the road a system will be in place to ensure the safety of the motoring public and the workforce.
“(There will be) full carriageway closure of sections with traffic being diverted accordingly and lane closures where necessary. Every effort has been made to ensure disruption to traffic, businesses and residents is kept to a minimum,” he said.
Dube called on the public to be cautious as the road closure would cause disruption on the road, encouraging residents to observe warning signs and follow diversion signs.
