BY RICHARD FAREKAYE RISING singer Jeremiah “Frillex Epic” Harrison says artistes must respect traditional media as it plays a pivotal role in shaping their careers and taking their music to the people.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, a media student at Midlands State University, Frillex Epic, said artistes, especially up-and-coming ones should create good relationships with media houses.
“The impact that mainstream media has on the success of musicians must not be underestimated. Traditional media is very important to the growth of music and artistes themselves,” said the Bulawayo-based singer.
“It should be a priority for up-and-coming singers to embrace traditional media rather than just focus on social media in everything they do. Mainstream media can still play a big role in the making of future stars.”
Frillex Epic said through My City Movement, made up of himself and two groups — The Whole Tribe and MOS Gang — they had been providing a platform to rising artistes to showcase their talents.
“As up-and-coming artistes we are finding it difficult to be included to be part of performers alongside already established artistes. Against this background we formed My City Movement,” he said.
“As My City Movement last week, we successfully hosted a well-attended concert at Stanley Hall in Makokoba. We seek to continue raising the Bulawayo music scene as done by the likes of the late Calvin.”
