SAMAs calls for entries

South African Music Awards

THE Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA), which is the custodian of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), has called on artistes to submit their works for nominations.

The call comes on the back of the hugely successful #SAMA30 hosted last month in Midrand.

“RiSA invites musicians to submit their entries for the 31st instalment of the country’s most prestigious music awards. Submissions open from Tuesday December 10, 2024,” read a Press statement by SAMA publicist Lesley Mofokeng, shared with NewsDay Life & Style.

“Entries eligible for a #SAMA31 consideration in over 30 genre categories should have been released between April 16, 2024 and January 31, 2025. They can be uploaded on our website www.samusicawards.co.za or delivered physically at Unit 1, 152 Bram Fisher Drive, Randburg during office hours.”

The closing date is January 31, 2025 at midnight.

This call for entries is geared towards hosting the SAMAs in the first half of the year as has traditionally been done, unlike in the past two years when they were hosted in November — in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Nhlanhla Sibisi, RiSA chief executive officer, said preparations for the event were already in motion.

“We have had an incredible year, marked by the triumphant staging of the milestone SAMA30. Now we are fired up and raring to go with SAMA31 preparations,” he said.

“We have seen an increased number of entries in the past years and we hope to maintain this. It is a much-valued vote of confidence in our systems from the industry that we cherish.

“We call on the industry to come along and ensure that SAMA31 is for the books. We look forward to an overwhelming response from deserving music practitioners.”

The SAMAs have a special category called Rest of Africa, which accommodates musicians from all over the continent to vie for the top gong.

Current holder of the award is Zimbabwean singer Kudzai.
