THE Champions is finally here!
The countdown for the premiere of the much-awaited Mzansi Magic’s new telenovela, Champions is over after the first episode screened at 19:00hrs on DStv’s channel 161 last night.
It was a big night for the viewers across southern Africa as they watched the first episode of the show whose storyline is based on passion, love, power and perseverance.
The show’s star-studded cast includes Sello Maake ka-Ncube, Tumisho Masha and Jo-anne Reyneke, Kgomotso Christopher, Kwenzo Ngcobo, Thembinkosi Mthembu, Thato Dithebe and breakout duo of Rethabile Mohapi and Minkie Malatji.
Champions’ theme song is courtesy of multi-award winning South African Afro-soul musician and actress Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane.
Motsilanyane is also a music producer, dancer and businesswoman.
On the show, former Orlando Pirates player and television presenter Brighton Mhlongo takes on the character of a retired footballer and owner of a soccer club.
Youngster Ntobeko Mathebula plays Ricky, a formidable soccer player and versatile actor Thabo Malema portrays the role of Lesibane, Lebo’s uncle.
