MUSIC producer, entrepreneur and author Zeb Tsikira has urged up-and-coming artistes to be realistic in the competitive music industry since success does not happen overnight.
He told NewsDay Life & Style that consistent practice and continuous improvement are the building blocks of success in music where setbacks are part of the process.
“Rising artistes must know that developing a signature sound takes dedication and time. It is not a race, but a journey”, he noted.
Tsikira, who is also the co-founder of Mey Records, reiterated the importance of building relationships which can open doors and opportunities for mentorships.
“It is important to network and connect with other artistes, producers and industry professionals. This can also help to establish mentor to mentee relationships between music producers and up-and-coming artistes when guiding them in shaping their unique sound,” he said.
Tsikira urged budding artistes to explore and experiment with different genres to find their own unique style which distinguishes them from others.
He said he had navigated the challenges in the music industry by staying true to his passion and beliefs. He has also not let negativity deter him by surrounding himself with a supportive network.
Tsikira worked with several artistes such as Tavonga “Leo Magozz” Magombedze, Mr Moren born Tatenda Ngonidzashe Moreni and Kugonakwashe “KG Phenomenal” Taanarwo.

To nurture talent and facilitate growth of the artistes, Tsikira said he utilised social media platforms. Through social media platforms, he showcases rising artistes’ works, building their online presence and fan base in the process.
At his record label, Tsikira ensures that the music released meets high quality standards and mentors and trains artistes to refine their skills and develop their unique sound to navigate the music industry effectively.
He also offered financial support for projects, equipment or marketing campaigns to boost artistes in need.
Away from music production, as an author, Tsikira has published books, All Or Nothing and You Can’t Save Your Way To Wealth.
