ALL is set for the fifth edition of Kariba October Festival that will begin this Saturday with an eight-hour boat cruise on Lake Kariba.
The annual festival aims to attract and promote domestic tourism in the resort town of Kariba.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, festival coordinator Allan “DJ Blaze Tuesday” Mambo said a huge crowd was expected to attend the festival owing to the number of years the event has been running.
“Like any other event, we expect it to be successful. The success of the festival marks positivity to the tourism sector not just in Kariba, but in Zimbabwe and the region at large. We are pushing from all angles for destination Kariba to be back to its former glory of being one of Zimbabwe tourism powerhouses,” he said.
“The Kariba October Festival mainly targets the youthful Zimbabweans with disposable income to spend on vacation. We are also targeting the working class and informally employed middle class that also have disposable income.
“This includes social groups in the form of active boozer clubs and other social media groups, mainly informal groups that are in need of being introduced to tourism recreational activities.”
Mambo said the organisers intend to have more activities this year and there will be a big musical concert that will incorporate upcoming and established musicians in Kariba.
Activities at this year’s festival include island boat docking, quad biking and parasailing, among others.

An after-boat cruise fifth anniversary party has been scheduled at Lake Harvest Sports club on Saturday night and some of the artistes set to entertain merrymakers include Jack and the Afro Jazz band, Dj Odza and Dj Rolex.
Kariba is one of Zimbabwe’s major tourist resorts largely because of its location on the lake and proximity to several national parks, including Mana Pools National Park, which was designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation World Heritage site in 1984.
The town also has a domestic airport.
