Moyo pays homage to Dhewa

As a way of paying homage to the late sungura legend, Moyo, who fronts Kutinya Express, has roped in Dhewa’s son Obert to perform at the launch.

KADOMA-BASED sungura musician Solo Moyo has saluted the late Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo for shaping his career as he prepares to launch his eighth album, ZvaMwari Hazvipikiswe, on Friday at Tanza Centre in Chitungwiza.

As a way of paying homage to the late sungura legend, Moyo, who fronts Kutinya Express, has roped in Dhewa’s son Obert to perform at the launch.

“Having been groomed by the late sungura maestro during the early stages of my career, I have decided to appreciate what he imparted in me by inviting his son, Obert to be part of performers at the launch,” he told NewsDay Life & Style.

“Dhewa contributed immensely to be where I am today and I am forever grateful for that. He was my source of inspiration in this musical journey.”

The singer said the album title was self-explanatory.

“I have no doubt that this album is going to be a success because I know I have hit the right chord considering the effort I have put on the songs. I am positive that this new album will elevate me to another level,” he said.

“I have been in the game for a while now and it feels good that the response to my previous productions havebeen remarkable.”

At the launch, Moyo will be supported by an array of artistes among them Leonard Zhakata, Suluman Chimbetu, Progress Chipfumo, dancehall singer Kinna and comedian-cum-musician Kapfupi.

“I have invited my brothers in showbiz as I push for unity among artistes across genres. It might be my album launch, but I don’t operate in a vacuum, which is why my showbiz brothers will be part of the launch.

“Because I cannot perform alone the whole night, I need support from fellow musicians. So, in this case, I have engaged musicians from different genres, both up-and-coming and seasoned ones to bring variety to the fans on the night. This has always been the norm in the music industry that we support each other when we launch albums.”

Moyo said the idea to have a big line-up of performers on the night was to also give his fans variety and value for money.

Moyo’s discography includes Ngazvive Zvenyu, Zvinobva Kunashe, Nyaya iDovi, and Nyaya Yakanaka.
