OVER the past year, Germany has emerged as a popular destination for Zimbabwean musicians seeking to expand their opportunities and make an impact in the global music scene. In a short space of time we have seen popular artists such as Nutty O, Exq, Dj Tamuka, Freeman, Enzo Ishall performing in various German cities and in the next two months there are three more shows lined up with Zimbabwean artistes headlining. However, the visiting artistes are missing on some big opportunities which I will explore in this article.
Having lived in Germany for almost seven years and working in the cultural space, I believe the country is a culturally diverse nation that opens up many possibilities for Zimbabwean musicians to explore. The country’s music scene offers plenty of opportunities for cross-genre collaborations, leading to an entirely new sound. Zimbabwean musicians could be collaborating with their German counterparts which then helps them to gain access to a new audience in the global music industry.

Collaborations between Zimbabwean and German artistes facilitate a blending of different cultures, leading to innovation and the preservation of traditional music styles.
Zimbabwean artistes can collaborate with German counterparts to create unique and diverse music that resonates with both audiences.
German bands can learn new styles and techniques from Zimbabwean musicians, leading to the creation of exceptional and boundary-pushing music. This can in future create a bridge that lures German artistes to Zimbabwe.
Musicians considering to travel to Germany need to start researching before their tours, connecting with the local media, artists, festivals and producers.
