THE holiday season often brings familiarity that is both comforting and joyous.
The bright lights, tinsel decorations and Christmas carols bring back nostalgic memories that remind us of what time of the year it is.
However, for the accomplished Zimbabwean songwriter and artist Daecolm Diego Holland this year’s Christmas is also giving something very new.
Daecolm, who was born in Zimbabwe, but now lives between London and Los Angeles, recently flew to Los Angeles to work with American singer and actor Chris Brown on his new release It’s Giving Christmas holiday single.
Among the song composers are Aaron Strickland, Aaron Rogers, Rashad Johnson, Nima Jahanbin, Paimon Jahanbin, Nigel Sparkes, Rayan El-Hussein Goufar and Patrizio Pigliapoco
Speaking about the collaboration, Daecolm said working on the single was amazing, adding that it was definitely the quickest turnaround he had ever experienced from writing, to recording and release that took just two weeks.
“I got to Los Angeles and one of my boys, who I work with, mentioned that Chris Brown had an idea for a Christmas single. There had been a few songs already written and some instrumentals on the shortlist. I went to the studio and ended up picking a completely different instrumental than what was offered to me and I even sped it up a little, which was a different approach,” Daecolm explained.
“Chris Brown loved it and to my surprise, he was already mixing and mastering it the next day. Things moved so fast after that. His team reached out to discuss the business and paperwork. Then I see he is already posting about releasing Christmas singles this year and soon after that the single was out as part of his It’s Giving Christmas two pack.”
