ERC hosts students ‘Register to vote’ concert

AS the 2023 general election mood picks up, the Election Resource Centre (ERC) and partners will this Saturday host a free music show to encourage youths to take part in elections.

There are widespread claims that local youths are reluctant to register to vote mainly because of lack of faith in the system and irregularities said to be perpetrated by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) that are allegedly discouraging potential youth voters.

The show themed #Register to Vote Student Concert to be headlined by top hip-hop stars will be held at Hartsfield Tshisanyama in Bulawayo.

However, only registered voters will be allowed to attend.

Bulawayo award-winning hip-hop star Tafadzwa “Asaph” Tarukwana, Mukudzei “Holy Ten” Chitsama, TriggerPablo and dancehall chanter Enzo Ishall will take turns to entertain revellers.

Rocking it on the turntables will be DJs Nospa, Rasobido and Gassy, among others.

Free Transport to Zec Initiative (FTZI) founder Justice Ndlovu said students were excited about the drive.

“This programme is organised by the Election Resource Centre to encourage students all over the country to register to vote. We engaged them after seeing that students need a boost to go and register to vote. As you know we are always taking students to Zec every Friday through FTZI,” Ndlovu said.

“The students’ concert is for free, but only those who are registered to vote will be allowed to get in. Your voter registration slip is your ticket in, nothing more. The concert is open to other youths who may not be students, but are registered, as they are part of our target.”

Asaph said it was important for the young people to enjoy, and also remember their responsibility, adding that they were not the leaders of tomorrow, but leaders of today.
