LOCAL amapiano fans will be in for a treat when three South African singers Toss, 9umba, and Mdoovar headline this month’s edition of the popular Fiesta Fiesta Amapiano Series at Alex Sports Club in Harare.
The concert, dubbed Pretty Girls Love Amapiano, will be held in support of breast cancer awareness month. October is breast cancer month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer.
For each concert ticket sold, US$0,50 will be donated towards cancer awareness.
The Fiesta Fiesta Amapiano Series has grown to become a major event in Harare’s outdoor leisure scene considering the large following that the music genre commands in the country.
A house music style, amapiano (Zulu term for “the pianos”) gained popularity in South Africa around 2012.
The genre is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterised by synths, airy pads and wide percussive basslines.
It is distinguished by high-pitch piano melodies, kwaito basslines, low tempo, 90s South African house rhythms and percussions from another subgenre of house known as bacardi.
Given that amapiano concerts are attracting huge crowds and the stellar line-up of top performers, the concert promises to be a thriller.

Concert organiser Chuckie “Chucknosis” Aisha told NewsDay Life & Style that their aim is to keep people happy through the Fiesta Fiesta Amapiano Series, adding that merrymakers would be allowed to bring their own refreshments and there would be lots of prizes to be won at the concert.
“Zimbabweans love amapiano music, the world's best trending genre at the moment and we are just moving with the wave to make people happy. We are expecting fireworks at the Pretty Girls Love Fiesta Fiesta on Saturday to be headlined by the Umlando hitmakers from across the Limpopo River,” he noted.
“As we are committed to promoting our many talented local DJs, top wheelspinners such as DJ Butler, emcee Tatts, DJ Naida, Confi, Tannie Swiss and Wowrae, will be doing their things on the turntables.”
Chucknosis said early bird tickets for the show would be selling for US$5 from midday to 2pm with the general entry fee set at US$10 after 2pm while VIP tickets would cost US$30.
The Fiesta Fiesta Amapiano Series has hosted other South African big names on the amapiano scene among them Sabelo Zuma Msholozi, Reece Madlisa, Young Stunna and Uncle Waffles.
