Katonganara, a model and drum salvage

Rashied Katonganara

MALE model and reigning Mr Summer Zimbabwe Rashied Katonganara believes it is through God’s grace that he is enjoying life as a model.

Katonganara recalls that his aspirations to become a model to advertise fashion brands grew as early as his primary school days.

Last year, he had an opportunity to participate at the virtually-held Mr Summer hosted by Cimztech Modelling Agency.

Luck was on his side as he clinched the title, brushing aside stiff competition to make his dream come true.

As it appeared to be his year, Katonganara was privileged to be linked to a modelling agency, United African Modelling Agency where he later became the face of the agency.

This opened doors for him and later became brand ambassador at Ihub Electronics, Keenswear and Flames Clothing Brands.

“I started off my career as a fitness model and later got involved in fashion design and modelling. The journey has been easy for me because many people appreciate how I do things in a unique way,” he explained.

Katonganara is looking forward to being a model signed under big brands in his pursuit to fulfil his dreams to own a fashion shop when resources permit.

“During my free time I join fellow musicians either at church or circular cycles where I have earned the nickname Drum Salvage because of my tight grip on the drum sticks,” he noted.

“The music strategy really changed the way I work nowadays because it is actually easier to showcase my talent on a music video showing the clothing line and also advertising through live platforms.”

The model said he was still fighting and pushing to have that kind of lifestyle he has always dreamt of.

“l do not just settle for less because an opportunity has arisen.

“For now, I can say I am just a simple guy with a year in the modelling industry striving to really make it big in the industry,” he told NewsDay Life & Style.

Katonganara challenged his fellow youth at church and in music to exercise self-control and temperance in every aspect of their lives.

“To those who have dreams of making it big in life, they have to work hard and stay true to their cause. Self-control, discipline and commitment are important aspects that should sell an individual,” he added.
