Growing up in Makokoba, Bulawayo — Msongelwa had a “thing”  for acting, but his dream was to become a footballer. His acting career was then discovered during his high school days at Gifford and Mzilikazi schools. He then trained at Schools Playwrights and Actors Academy, which is now Children in Theatre and Television for three years.

He will be in charge for the start of next month’s T20 World Cup qualifiers and succeeds Lalchand Rajput, who will assume a newly-created role as technical director.

The country’s poor performances in recent months also saw Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) reshuffle the technical team and bring back former player and coach Dave Houghton to take the reins while Lalchand Rajput was elevated to the position of technical director.

The reshuffle of the technical team coincides with another bad performance by the senior men national team after it succumbed to another series whitewash against Afghanistan following a 35 run defeat in the third and final T20i match at Harare Sports Club yesterday.
