Winky D welcomes Frya to Vigilance

Winky D then stepped back to give Frya the stage to showcase her vocal ability, and performed South African series, Blood and water theme song which she made with Mr Kamera.

WINKY D announced the addition of songstress Frya to the Vigilance Music, a stable headed by Winky D.

The announcement was made on stage at the Redefined concert held last week at the HICC.

"This is Frya, the latest recruit for Vigilance Music," said Winky D after the opening performance of Akayenda.

Winky D then stepped back to give Frya the stage to showcase her vocal ability, and performed South African series, Blood and water theme song which she made with Mr Kamera.

Rutendo Maregere, known to the world as Frya, grew up surrounded by music, a foundation for her future as a rising star. Her studies took her to South Africa in 2016, where she balanced a finance career with her musical passion.

A casual Instagram cover of Adele's "One and Only" launched Frya's journey. The viral video caught the eye of an Sabc 1 producer, leading to her first official music credit – the title track for the show Side Dish.

In 2019, Frya collaborated on the "Kure remix" with Ishan, further solidifying her musical presence. By 2020, she took the leap, leaving her day job to fully pursue music. This bold decision unlocked incredible opportunities.

Frya's big break arrived with the soundtrack for Netflix's "Blood and water." This exposure propelled her talent internationally. Soundtracks for popular South African shows ("The River," "Lockdown") and Nigerian series ("Glamorous Girls") followed.

Frya's debut album, Balance, showcases both her song writing prowess and emotional depth. The album explores the complexities of relationships through a variety of sounds, produced by Mr Kamera, GT Beats, and Andre Harris. "Balance" cements Frya's versatility and ability to express emotions through music.

Back home in Zimbabwe, Frya's collaboration with Winky D on the song Akayenda cemented her national fame.

The track, part of Winky D's compilation Love Quartet, became an instant hit. Produced by Oskid Productions and featuring Trust Samende's captivating guitar work, Akayenda perfectly blends Winky D's signature style with Frya's powerful vocals.
