Nutty O chides local artists

Dancehall star Nutty O has taken aim at Zimbabwean artists, particularly those with recent releases, calling their music "half-baked".

Dancehall star Nutty O has taken aim at Zimbabwean artists, particularly those with recent releases, calling their music "half-baked".

In an interview with Earground Africa, Nutty O promised a return to high-quality music with his upcoming project.

"There's a lot going on and a lot coming up. But good music takes time and effort. I'm working on new music right now, and I will be giving you good music," he said.

"Timeless requires time; you need time to make good music. I’m sure you can see that the (musical) scene lacks good music because people are just half baking stuff, because we don’t take time. I’m taking my time and we are coming with a whole lot of things.”

Nutty O's 2021 album, Mustard Seed, was widely praised as a classic, solidifying his place as one of Zimbabwe's top artists and earning him numerous accolades.

However, his 2023 follow-up, Cornerstone Mixtape, failed to capture the same level of acclaim.

His sentiments come amidst a wave of new releases from prominent artists like Winky D, Killer T and Master H.

Meanwhile, Nutty O did not participate in this year's Redefined concert featuring Winky D, Jah Prayzah, Feli Nandi, and Master H at the HICC. He was, however, part of the event last year.
