ZIMBABWE Music Rights Association (Zimura) is mulling the construction of multi-purpose music and cultural centres for arts communities across the country.
Speaking at the recently held Zimura annual general meeting in Harare, board chairperson Albert Nyathi said there were plans to support growth of the arts community.
“We think that as Zimura grows, it will be necessary to partner other towns for the same issue,” Nyathi said.
“Gweru, Masvingo and Mutare city councils will be approached for pieces of land once Bulawayo and Harare centres become operational.”
Nyathi said to ensure that the plan comes to fruition, formal engagements through relevant authorities will be made.
“We continue to engage the City of Harare through the mayor, Provincial Affairs minister as well as the Local Government minister, for a piece of land to build a similar structure,” he said.
Construction of a similar facility is now at an advanced stage in Bulawayo, with provisions for basic amenities having been put in place to pave way for other developments.
“We broke the ground in November 2020 and we have constructed a temporary office structure (container) from where we operate now and by so doing, we have avoided paying over US$700 in rentals per month in the city,” Nyathi said.

“We have also sunk a borehole and constructed a security wall as well.”
When construction works are completed, the facilities are expected to have fully equipped recording studios, rehearsal rooms, auditoriums, administrative offices and conference rooms among other provisions.
