Sables wind off Asia tour

The match, dubbed “Sables Last Dance”, is scheduled for South East Asia Rugby Stadium at 4 pm.

HIGH-FLYING Zimbabwe Fifteens Rugby side concludes their tour of the United Arab Emirates and Asia aiming to maintain their unbeaten record when they date South Korea tomorrow.

The match, dubbed “Sables Last Dance”, is scheduled for South East Asia Rugby Stadium at 4 pm.

However, the reigning Africa Rugby Cup Champions have suffered a huge injury blow heading into their final encounter but remain hopeful of success.

Out injured is Godfrey Muzanarwo, who had a nose fracture in the 62-22 win over United Arab Emirates, and veteran hooker Simbarashe Mandioma.

The French-based player picked a foot injury in training but may be cleared for his 50th cap should his condition satisfy the medical crew.

Brian Makamure remains sidelined as he recovers from multiple injuries while Tafadzwa Nyakufaringwa is battling a swollen knee.

Sables head coach Piet Benade has put faith in the replacements.

“Injuries are an unfortunate part of our sport, and players will be missed, but at the same time, this will provide opportunities for others to test themselves and for us to grow our squad depth,” Benade said.

“We saw in the final of Africa Cup with the absence of Cleopas Kundiona, Ian Prior, and Tinotenda Mavesere, the boys who were given opportunities to play stepped up. Their replacements stepped up admirably.

“While injuries are never ideal, we are prioritising plavyers’ long-term health, rehabilitation and monitoring, especially in this critical period.”
