Drama as Mangombe jumps ship

Dynamos of coach Genesis Mangombe.

NORTHERN Region Division One Soccer League side Scottland are pulling out all stops to gain promotion to the Premier League after they robbed Dynamos of coach Genesis Mangombe.

Dynamos released a midnight statement on Monday announcing the departure of Mangombe, who was said to have resigned.

By mid-morning yesterday, it was confirmed that Mangombe had signed for Scottland, with the unveiling coming through later in the day around lunch time.

Mangombe’s move to Scottland was probably one of the worst kept secrets and the former Yadah Stars gaffer’s scathing attack on the club’s leadership over failure to back him in the transfer market confirmed he was on his way out.

Scottland, owned by wealthy gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya, announced a new coaching setup that includes assistants William Nyasulu, Owen Paraffin and goalkeepers coach Bruce Matawu.

The club announced in a statement that Mangombe had taken over as coach.

“Greetings to you all. Thank you for coming on such short notice. As you are aware of, for the Northern Region Soccer technical qualifications, we have brought on board Genesis Mangombe. He is to take on the position of head coach with immediate effect (sic),” the statement read.

Scittland are four points behind log leaders MWOS after 20 matches.

They signed former Warriors and Caps United defender Ronald Pfumbidzai after he was offloaded by a South African club.

The club also snapped up King Nadolo, Leeroy Mavunga and Allen Gahadzikwa.

Scottland are embroiled in a tough race for promotion, where MWOS are on top with 43 points, while Black Rhinos and Harare City are in second and third, respectively with 42 points.

Meanwhile, the departure of Mangombe has left DeMbare scurrying for a new coach.

In the interim, Lloyd Chigowe will preside, having already been in the set-up as an assistant to Mangombe.

Mangombe left DeMbare sitting on position seven, 13 points behind log leaders Simba Bhora.

On Sunday, Mangombe complained that Dynamos failed to sign a striker after he had asked for reinforcements.

The team has been struggling for goals, which has seen them slip out of the title matrix and into the mid-table zone of irrelevance.

Some DeMbare fans took to social media to celebrate Mangombe’s departure.

But when images emerged of Mangombe’s unveiling as well as his new work vehicle, it left a bitter taste in the mouths of a host of Dynamos followers.
