FORMER footballer and businessman, Lazarus Chigova is a man on a mission to demystify the notion that education is the only path to successful life.
The businessman and cousin to late Warriors goalkeeper George Chigova has encouraged school’s authorities to give maximum support to kids who want to pursue sport as a career.
Speaking at the inaugural Formula Gasses U-20 Soccer tournament held at Madzivire Range High School last week, the businessman called for a balanced support for shaping the path of children both academically and in sport.
“We gathered here at Madzivire Range High School for the U-20 Soccer tournament with our main objective of demystifying the notion that being good in academics is the only path to success.
“As former footballer myself, who grew up being told that academics was the only way to a successful life, today I challenge the school authorities to avail options for our kids to pursue both education and sport because not everyone is educationally gifted hence the reason we are here promoting sport,” said Chigova.
He revealed that sport has since become one of the biggest industries in the world, revealing that his late cousin George Chigova led a good life through football.
“Sport has become a source of living and I had a firsthand experience of how sport can change the life of our children if they are supported, my brother (George Chigova) led a good life, through playing soccer, talk about Khama Billiat, talk about Ronaldo,” said Lazarus.
Lazarus Chigova through his Formula Gases company last week launched a soccer tournament in Chivhu which comprised 16 secondary and high schools from the Chikomba and Buhera district.

“As Formula Gasses we have taken the initiative to promote sport among the children.
“Firstly we want to give an opportunity to children to pursue a career in sport while we also seek to fight the pandemic of drug abuse among the youths,” said Chigova.
A total of 16 teams battled out for honors, with Hande from Buhera becoming the eventual winners of the tournament walking away with the coveted trophy.
The top four teams from the tournament received brand new jerseys from Formula Gasses.
Chigova revealed that they seek to grow the tournament next with the incorporation of the girl child.
