ZIMBABWE Ezekiel Guti University (Zegu)’s three-member team of law students is optimistic that it will excel at its debut appearance at the KK Luthra Memorial Moot Court set for tomorrow until Sunday in India.
The competition’s finals will be held at the Faculty of Law Centre, University of New Delhi and the Zegu team will participate on Saturday, with the final round set for the next day.
Zegu qualified for the finals after making it into the top 10 out of 60 teams.
The team is made up of Takudzwanashe Chinyemba, Tadiwa Chipunza and Andrew Matyatya.
In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style, Chinyemba said they spent the past six months preparing for the competition.
“There is no doubt that we are a top-notch university and we want to maintain that. We don’t just want to participate, but we want to bring something home. We will try our best to excel,” he enthused.
“Considering how we have performed in the local competitions and how we have worked really hard preparing for this, we are optimistic of bringing back something. It is inevitable.”
Team coach Nyasha Chiramba also expressed confidence that they will make the university, nation and region at large proud.

“The team will participate as the respondent on February 18 in the morning and lastly as the appellant. If it succeeds, it will get to the final round the next day. This is the team that is going to be mooting,” he explained.
“Unfortunately, we are not going to have three speakers because of the competition rules. However, they will all be on the bench assisting each other, arguing and making sure that the team wins, proceeds to the next round and comes back with the trophy.”
The team participated at the Transparency International Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association moot competitions and was ranked second in both competitions out of four law schools.
It also participated at the International Committee of Red Cross Moot Competition and came third.
