A Plumtree-based man went berserk and assaulted his mother with an axe handle after she quizzed him for not greeting her.

The court heard that Methuseli Mvundla (30) nearly killed his 52-year-old mother Zenzo Sibanda during the violent assault

The matter came to light at  the Plumtree magistrates courts where Mvundla appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware.

Nembaware remanded the suspect in custody to December 27.

Prosecutor Voster Makuwerere alleged that on November 17, Mvundla had a misunderstanding with his mother after he failed to greet her.

The suspect became angry and assaulted his mother with open hands before picking an axe handle.

He hit her once on the leg with the axe handle and she fled from her yard.

A police report was filed leading to Mvundla’s  arrest.
