A Plumtree man allegedly assaulted his wife with a leather belt after he was told that there was no relish for his meal.
Golden Malikondwe appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware last week facing an assault charge.
Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa alleged that sometime in October this year, Malikondwe arrived home late and demanded his share of food.
His wife Joyce Ngwenya told him that she had only prepared sadza and did not have any relish to cook.
Malikondwe assaulted his wife until she sought refuge at their neighbour's place. His trial will start on Tuesday.
