Nkayi community to hold diaspora investment conference

According to Nkayi district co-ordinator Matilda Mlotshwa the aim of the event is to attract investment in community-led initiatives.

THE Nkayi community is expected to hold a diaspora investment event in Bulawayo this week in a move to bring development within the district as a way of improving living conditions for the villagers.

According to Nkayi district co-ordinator Matilda Mlotshwa the aim of the event is to attract investment in community-led initiatives.

“The event will help us to expose opportunities that are available in our district and ready for uptake. This will assist in achieving the dreams of the community and the vision of the nation as a whole,” she said.

Mlotshwa said the event will help to apprise other communities on how to engage and work together with the people from Nkayi.

“We have six community-led initiatives and four individual business enterprises in Nkayi. Completion of this initiative will help in the development of the district and provide people better lives,” Mlotshwa said.

She said the investment conference was also expected to engage development partners in the education and health sector.

“The event will be held in Bulawayo because we are targeting businesses that would have come for the Mine Entra at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair venue.

“The other reason is that the bad state of Bulawayo-Nkayi road  would deter potential investors who might want to attend,” she said.

Mlotshwa said once they attract investors, it would help reduce the syndrome of dependency from the community and make their survival better.

“We hope to receive positive responses from development partners and well-wishers in terms of financial support. We expect improved livelihoods for Nkayi communities,” she said.
