Mtsheli Sibanda died on June 16 this year aged 52 and was buried at his rural home in Mtshatshane village in Nkayi on Saturday.

A PROMINENT Nkayi businessman has died after a long struggle with diabetes.

Mtsheli Sibanda died on June 16 this year aged 52 and was buried at his rural home in Mtshatshane village in Nkayi on Saturday last week.

His death was confirmed by Nkayi South legislator Jabulani Hadebe yesterday.

“We buried our famous businessman in Nkayi on Saturday, who was known by the name of ‘Thokoza’, which is the name of his various shops in Nkayi,” Hadebe said.

“He has been sick since the early 1990s and he became worse recently.”

Sibanda worked as a welder in Zimbabwe and he later moved to South Africa to pursue his trade.

While in South Africa, he opened various businesses in Nkayi.

Hadebe said he launched a fund called Thokoza Business Fund to assist up-and-coming Nkayi informal businesses in Sibanda’s honour.

He said he provided R5 000 as seed capital for the fund.
