VIVAT Health Solutions group managing director Thembelihle Mloyi-Ncube has urged people to undergo regular cancer screening to avoid late detection of the disease.
Vivat Health Solutions, through its flagship medical aid scheme Bon Vie, on Saturday held its second edition of “Mountain Hiking Experience” at Matobo National Park, an event meant to foster healthy habits which was attended by more than 200 people.
Mloyi-Ncube said men and women must regularly undergo health checks to stay healthy.
“Today, we just came together to celebrate our health and to say: “Look, let’s go hiking together and let’s have fun.” We believe that a good life (is only possible) if you have good health. So we always talk about doing your preventative tests. Do your screening checks every year, please do your screening. The cancers are increasing, do general checks to avoid late detections of deadly medical conditions and diseases,” she said.
The event was sponsored by Zibuko Capital, Pacific Cigarette Company, Nyaradzo Group, Spar and Exide, among others. Hikers were treated to free medical services including HIV tests.
The first hiking event was held last year at Domboshava Hills, Mashonaland East province, and was attended by 90 people.
“This year, we decided to bring it to Matabeleland, and we are exploring the Matopos. The turnout has been amazing. Given that last year, we only had less than 90 people attending. This year we have seen the attendance going as far as 200,” added Mloyi-Ncube.
According to the World Health Organisation, cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020, or nearly one in six deaths.
