Cyclist dies in freak accident involving CCC aspiring Hwedza South MP

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) losing candidate for Hwedza South constituency, Valentine Zinhumwe

A CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) losing candidate for Hwedza South constituency, Valentine Zinhumwe, was involved in a freak accident that allegedly caused the death of a cyclist.

The accident occurred at Rapako village 1 in the constituency on Wednesday.

Zinhumwe was allegedly driving the car when he hit cyclist Innocent Chitongo.

Chitongo later died upon arrival at Mt St Mary’s Hospital.

The deceased is set to be buried Thursday.

Sources, however, alleged that Zinhumwe had allegedly tried to flee the accident scene in what could have been a hit-and-run case, but villagers reportedly blocked him from fleeing.

Zinhuwe confirmed the accident saying its under police investigation.

"The matter is currently under police investigation only to say those allegations are false and malicious for any further comment I will refer you to my lawyer," he said.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was yet to get the report.
