Gweru guard killed in cold blood

POLICE in Gweru have launched a manhunt for suspected robbers who murdered a security guard in cold blood in Mkoba high-density suburb last week.

Confirming the incident yesterday, Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating the death of a 49-year-old male security guard who was killed in cold blood by unknown assailants while on duty in Mkoba 12 suburb. The body was discovered by a passerby on December 9 at around 5am.

“Circumstances are that on December 8 the now deceased Charles Bechu of Woodlands Phase 2 and employed as a security guard by Seasec security company was on duty guarding a telecommunications booster (base station) in Mkoba 12."

According to Mahoko, Bechu's body was found with a deep stab wound on the left shoulder a few metres from the base station on December 9.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the deceased screamed for help when the robbers pounced on him, but he could not get assistance.

Mahoko appealed to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to report at the nearest police station.
