MRP leader refuses to step down

Moyo was ousted as MRP leader following allegations of hate speech and mismanagement, among other charges.

OUSTED Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) leader, Mqondisi Moyo, has refused to step aside insisting that he is still in power.

Moyo was ousted as MRP leader following allegations of hate speech and mismanagement, among other charges.

An interim structure led by co-chairpersons Thembisani Mpofu and Chilumbo Mudenda has been tasked to organise an elective congress next year.

Moyo, however, said the interim committee were impostors.

“I will not be utopian to say that there are no challenges. Obstacles are present,” said Moyo yesterday in an interview.

“This revolution cannot be stopped by people who are bent on pleasing our enemies. They are impostors. We are for peace and justice in our lifetime.”

However, the MRP said Moyo remains ousted as party leader and is an ordinary card-carrying member.

Interim party spokesperson, Mbonisi Gumbo, said: “Let it be categorically clear that Moyo and other members were not fired. They are still MRP members, but they no longer have the mandate to continue to act as they did in their previous capacities unless they are re-elected at congress.”
