CIO trailing me: CCC candidate

The suspected CIOs, who were seen by NewsDay driving in an unregistered white Toyota single cab, milled around the shops monitoring the meeting, which was held a few metres away.

CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) Chirumanzu South’s parliamentary candidate, Patrick Cheza, has claimed that operatives from the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) are trailing him to intimidate him.

Last weekend, Cheza held a CCC meeting at Mapiravana business centre in Chirumanzu, where CIO officers from Gweru were reportedly deployed.

The suspected CIOs, who were seen by NewsDay driving in an unregistered white Toyota single cab, milled around the shops monitoring the meeting, which was held a few metres away.

Cheza said he was unfazed by the presence of the intelligence officers.

“It has now become the norm that at every meeting we hold for the elections  we are sent CIOs,” Cheza said.

“But we are telling you (CIO) that you are free to do your duties. We don’t blame you that you are deployed here, but what we want to tell you is that we are all affected by this economic downturn. The bad economy does not choose who to affect.”

Cheza accused Zanu PF of victimising villagers who attended his meetings.

He also demanded justice for police officer who was transferred from Charandura to Shurugwi after he had a fallout with Zanu PF Chirumanzu South parliamentary candidate Barbara Rwodzi over the arrest of a ruling party activist.
