THE continuous power outage at Gweru’s main waterworks, Gwenhoro, has seen most parts of the Midlands capital going without water for days.
In a statement yesterday, acting town clerk Vakai Chikwekwe said the power outage had affected pumping capacity.
“We are currently not pumping since 2am this morning due to a power outage at Gwenhoro waterworks,” Chikwekwe said.
In a notice, Zesa southern region said a power cable fault had disturbed supplies.
“Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company would like to apologise to its valued customers in southern region for power outage due to a cable fault,” the power utility said.
“Our teams are working round the clock to ensure restoration of service.”
Over the years, incessant electrical faults coupled with obsolete infrastructure at the Gwenoro water treatment plant have exacerbated the city's water woes.
