The event, which will be held on September 3 in Harare, will see athletes compete in the Men’s Open Bodybuilding, Junior Men’s Bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Men’s Fitness Open and the Women Bikini Open categories.

By Courage Nyaya MARUME Classic, one of the country’s premier bodybuilding and fitness competitions which is also the brainchild of the four-time Mr Zimbabwe and six-times Mr Ironman winner, Givemore Marume, is set to return on the calendar this year.

The event, which will be held on September 3 in Harare, will see athletes compete in the Men’s Open Bodybuilding, Junior Men’s Bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Men’s Fitness Open and the Women Bikini Open categories.

Seasoned bodybuilder Nunurai Masosonere, scooped the Senior Man overall category of the last edition which was held in 2020.

Marume told NewsDay Sports that the show was back after two years of break following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The show is back after a two-year break because of COVID-19 which forced the halting of sporting activities as well as closure of gyms which made it impossible to host the competition,” Marume said.

Marume added that the preparations for this year’s edition were at an advanced stage.

“The preparations are well ahead with the athletes ready to parade their superb physiques on September 3 and the team behind Marume Classic is busy putting all necessary logistics in place for a great show. Like the previous years this show brings class and depth in bodybuilding and fitness and Marume Classics official partner Saltrama Plastics is helping with the show preparations. We are promising the nation of a great show coming and we are putting together some surprises to come.”

He also confirmed that competitors from Zambia were expected to compete while the organisers are anticipating athletes from the region.

“This show is growing in the region and this year so far the Zambians have confirmed their participation and we are waiting for other athletes from countries in the region to make confirmations.”
