BY IRENE MOYO POLICE in Bulawayo have warned youths against abusing drugs during the Easter holidays and Independence Day celebrations.
In a statement yesterday, police expressed concern over the rise in criminal activities in the city due to drug abuse.
This comes as government announced that this year’s Independence Day celebrations will be held in Bulawayo, while the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair will be held from April 26 in the same town.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube urged youths to stay away from drugs during the coming holidays.
“The upcoming events are so joyous. If you get carried away you might find yourself becoming a drug addict,” Ncube said.
“Let us control ourselves so that even after these holidays are over, you remain a proud child. You cannot expect a better future when your present is shattered. Your future begins with you. I hereby appeal to the youth to say no to drugs.”
Ncube also urged Bulawayo motorists to play a positive role in preserving lives during the Easter and Independence holidays.
“The Bulawayo traffic section has done a lot of enforcement and it is again upon us to warn the motorists to drive with due care, conforming to the road traffic regulations,” he said.
