South African-based blogger and creative Blessing Jena is calling on stakeholders and industry experts to join his team in making the upcoming Zimbabwe Reggae and Dancehall Merit Awards a success.
In an interview with Standard Style, Jena, also known as HavokLive online, stated that they were finalising the venue in the CBD for the convenience of all attendees.
“We are finalising the venue in the CBD, ensuring it’s accessible to everyone,” Jena said.
“We encourage stakeholders and industry experts to join our team to contribute to the event’s success.
“Additionally, businesses and individuals seeking advertising opportunities are welcome to participate.”
Jena explained that the awards ceremony was inspired by the abundance of talent and excellence within the Zimbabwean Reggae and Dancehall scene that has often gone unrecognised.
He aims to address this by providing a platform for artists to be acknowledged without any systemic discrimination disguised as mainstream awards.
“The awards will rectify this by offering everyone a chance to be recognised without any bias,” Jena said.

“Most of the awards will be judged by industry experts who have volunteered their time, while others will require public votes.
“Voting lines are currently circulating on social media platforms.”
The nominations for the awards categories are now closed, with entries accepted from August 1 to August 20.
The official date for the event will be announced in October.
HavokLive mentioned that although he is currently based in South Africa, he plans to return home for the awards ceremony.
Jena emphasised that the Zimbabwe Reggae and Dancehall Merit Awards present a valuable opportunity for Zimbabwean Reggae and Dancehall artists, producers, videographers, and collaborators to be recognised for their contributions to the genre.
