It’s all systems go...As Macheso readies new album

Macheso’s last album launch was during his 54th birthday celebrations in Chitungwiza two years ago, on a day that also marked the 24th anniversary of his band, Orchestra Mberikwazvo.

It’s just five days before sungura maestro Alick Macheso releases his 13th album titled Kupa Kuturika.

The launch is a must-attend event given the hype during the build-up which was characterised by endorsement, aggressive publicity on social media, print and broadcasting platforms.

It’s just euphoria fascinating the sungura music fraternity.

Next Friday, all roads lead to Alex Sports Club where Macheso, ably supported by DJ Fantan, Andy Muridzo and Feli Nandi, will launch Kupa Kuturika.

Macheso’s last album launch was during his 54th birthday celebrations in Chitungwiza two years ago, on a day that also marked the 24th anniversary of his band, Orchestra Mberikwazvo.

It was the launch of Tinosvitswa Nashe, a six-track masterpiece recorded at Alema Studios in Chitungwiza whose prelaunch was held at Rainbow Towers in Harare.

Macheso kept his fans on their toes and generated curiosity and interest after he postponed the album launch from the traditional month of June to August 2 due to weather concerns.

His previous three album launches have been held in June, usually characterised by unfriendly weather, but held indoors.

“There have been concerns about the weather, as June is a very cold month and having the launch in August, with warmer temperatures, allows our fans to fully enjoy this momentous occasion,” Macheso’s management said when they had postponed the event in June.

“The venue remains the same, Alex Sports Club, an outdoor arena which is not best in cold weather of June.”

The postponement gave Macheso ample time to polish his music as he had to reduce live performances to allow him more studio time.

He has been sampling some of the new songs during live performances and his fans loved it.

As the euphoria grew in the build-up, several companies have come on board and are rallying behind Macheso.

“We are more than excited to be part of this great event,” said Pacific Cigarette’s trade marketing manager Kudakwashe Chiutsi.

“We have worked with Alick Macheso and our all-time events partner JIVE Zimbabwe on many other projects, this one is big and very promising.

“The album title Kupa Kuturika speaks right into our 21st anniversary celebrations theme where we are giving to the community.

“We have several community projects; watch the space something brewing on the eve of the album launch.”

The cigarette company said they welcomed such great projects such as the album launch and they have more events to help promote the arts industry and uplift communities in the country.

This is not the first time that Pacific Cigarette Company have been involved in local music as last year they collaborated to host Killer T and Andy Muridzo at a sold out gig at Padziva Camp and Caravan.

Pacific Cigarettes Company had chipped in with promotion, stage, PA System, and lighting.

Macheso’s publicist Tich Makahamadze said it was systems to go.

“I think we are ready for the big day and fans should look to an exciting night,” he said.

“People should come in their numbers because Baba Shero has something good in store for them.”

Supporting acts on the night have never disappointed and are expected to give their best on the night.
