Francophone week: Celebrating cultural, linguistic diversity

The francophone week will be hosted from March 9 to 24 at the Alliance Francaise of Harare at Herbert Chitepo Avenue .

IN celebration of the richness and diversity of the french language, The alliance of the francaise de harare in partnership with eight embassies organised the  francophone week 2024 in Harare which  started yesterday the theme being " celebrating cultural ,linguistic diversity".

The francophone week will be hosted from March 9 to 24 at the Alliance Francaise of Harare at Herbert Chitepo Avenue .

The director of Alliance of Française Harare  Fanny Gauthier said francophone week is an annual event, which highlights the French language and Francophone cultures around the world, offering a platform for exchange and intercultural dialogue for culture lovers.

"The Francophone week promises  to have a series of exciting activities celebrating the linguistic and cultural diversity of the French-speaking world. The festivities include conference, film screenings, exhibition, live music, workshops, activities for schools and even some gastronomy.”

“The programme is  aimed to highlight the essential role played by the French language in bringing people and cultures closer together  promoting mutual understanding and respect for the differences. "La Francophonie is a melting pot of cultural and linguistic diversity, and the Francophone Week is the ideal opportunity to celebrate this richness," said Gauthier.

Gauthier said the highlights of La Francophonie 2024  include  the Kubuni African comic strip exhibition and The Mixx Concert on March 16.

“The" kubuni" exhibition" is a bilingual road map dedicated to the discovery of comics from sub-Saharan Africa including a special focus on Zimbabwean comic artists. Organised in partnership with the Comexposed association, Bill Masuku held a workshop yesterday on comics in Southern Africa for young artists and comics enthusiasts”.

Gauthier said there is going to be a concert that  will bring together musicians from Burkina Faso, France and Zimbabwe for a unique and original musical experience. Again in the spirit of cultural exchange, the Swiss and French guests will be meeting Zimbabwean musicians at workshops.

The Francophone week is celebrated yearly in march the international francophone Day is a worldwide celebration that reunites francophones to celebrate French language and francophone cultures.

Francophonie refers to men and women who share a common language, French, which is  estimated to have over 300 million French speakers across five continents.
