Energy company ‘energises’ Marondera school

Primus Energy director Dunmore Mutyambizi said the donation was part of the company's corporate social responsibility.

Top energy company, Primus Energy has donated stationary worth thousands of dollars to Dombotombo Primary School in Marondera.

The donation saw scores of learners benefiting as the school held its annual prize-giving ceremony to honour pupils who excelled in both academic and extracurricular activities in 2023.

The stationary included pens, exercise books, bond paper, rulers and pencils among others.

The company also donated summer hats and t-shirts for staff.

Primus Energy director Dunmore Mutyambizi said the donation was part of the company's corporate social responsibility.

“We assist many institutions who seek any such help from us and the need is justified,"he said.

"Dombotombo Primary School is also outstanding in catering for special needs education, be it intellectual impairment or hearing impairment.

"Currently the special needs team is number 1 in the whole (Mashonaland East Province) for the G and C quiz and will be representing the Province for the National Quiz Competition.

"They are also the district champions in traditional dance; a useful art towards culture preservation and conscientisation."

This is not the first time the company has bailed the school.

Last year, the school received 300 day-old road runner chicks, school fees for 14 students, roofing sheets and sport regalia for all sporting disciplines.

Despite having no discriminatory enrolment policy, the school has been hailed for its pass rate that hovers around 85%.

"The pass rate is also quite impressive across all grades. A consistent average pass rate of 88% for the past 5 years is what also drives us to assist the learners," added Mutyambizi.

“I would like to thank the parents for affording to educate our young ones. Education is the foundation towards any person's development, be it academically, religiously or culturally.

“We urge our children to behaving well, achieve good grades, follow a sporting discipline, art or culture, resist and desist from substance abuse. We commend government for prioritising education under NDS1 through Education 5.0.

“We encourage our teaching staff including the school development committee for a job well done and to remain committed to their important role in shaping the future custodians of our great nation, Zimbabwe.”

Built in 1963, Dombotombo Primary School produced leading academics such as former University of Zimbabwe lecturer who is now the Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Rwanda Charity Manyeruke.

The school currently has an enrollment of 1 933 learners.
