Bling 4 tops Zim hip-hop nominations

Bling 4 is named in nine categories followed by Bagga with eight, Holy Ten and Voltz JT are on seven whilst South Africa based Mlue Jay is on six. 

RAPPER Bling 4 garnered the most nominations in this year’s edition of the annual Zim Hip hop awards set for December 15.

Bling 4 is up for Best  Male, Best collaboration, Best new comer, Song of the year for his song Shiri ngainaiwe feat Voltz JT, video of the year for the same song, best hip hop hustle, best hip hop verse sweet 16 for his verse on ihulumende, hip hop personality of the year and the people’s choice.

Bagga had nominations in people’s choice, hip hop personality of the year, hip hop hustle, video of the year for his video Nyarara, best alternative, best newcomer, best male, and best song of the year.

For the best female nominees, the reigning best female Young Gemini will battle it out with Noluntu J, Brucella, Millz Million, Banshee, and Natasha Muz.

This year’s edition of the awards themed- Evolution, will celebrate 50 years of the genre.

Hip-hop started as a niche movement in New York in the early 1970s, and now, it is the world’s biggest genre of music and permeates almost every aspect of modern music and pop culture.

“Our theme for 2023 is "Evolution," which is inspired by the worldwide celebration of hip hop turning 50 years,” said a statement by the organisers.

“This year, we are striving to show the development and growth of hip hop not only in Zimbabwe but across the globe as a culture.

"As part of the evolution, the Zim Hip Hop Awards brand will be engaging fans, industry professionals, and music enthusiasts who truly understand the pulse of the genre in celebrating and showcasing the milestones of the culture in Zimbabwe.”

Zim Hip Hop Awards is dedicated to promoting and supporting Zimbabwean hip hop culture. It serves as a hub for artists, fans, and industry professionals, providing a space to discover new talent, share music, and stay updated on the latest developments within the genre. Through events, awards, and collaborations, Zim Hip Hop aims to cultivate a thriving hip hop community in Zimbabwe and elevate the genre's cultural significance.
