Chibuku Neshamwari winners stay humble

After participating in the competition three times, the Bulawayo- based group finally walked away with a $15 000 cheque after shrugging off competition from other provincial representatives.

THE winners of this year’s edition of the Chibuku Neshamwari traditional dance finals Sekunjalo Ma Africa said they would remain humble and not let success carry them away.

After participating in the competition three times, the Bulawayo- based group finally walked away with a $15 000 cheque after shrugging off competition from other provincial representatives.

In second position was Yarira Ngoma, a group from Glen View in Harare that performed Chinyambera- the hunting dances and they walked away with $10 000 prize.

In third position was Makarekare from Mashonaland East who performed the Mbende Jerusarema dance. For their efforts they got $7,500.

“We are not going to rush into things just because we are now winners, we shall remain humble and level headed,” said Sekunjalo Ma Africa’s Director Arnold Ndebele.

“We have just won and we should be disciplined and make informed decisions on where we want to go from this win.

We won $15 000 from a 10 minute act yet we usually get less for work that takes more time. The money should be used wisely and with discipline.

We are not in a hurry to make decisions and also use the prize money but what I can tell you is that the money will be invested in the group, how and on what I can’t say at the moment, I don’t want to go ahead of the group and myself,” he said.

Ndebele said they didn’t expect to win in this year’s finals despite contesting for the third time.

“The feeling of winning is magnificent; it’s something that I can’t explain. We have contested before and this time around I think it was a process of growing as a group and understanding the competition that it requires to get to the top.

We are grateful of the support we got from our fans as well as Chibuku for availing such a platform so that we can be able to express our talents,” he said.

Ndebele revealed that they were looking towards beefing up the group’s number and also introduce a junior development outfit that would support the senior structure.
