Y2K Entertainment Promotions has added the energetic and sensational South African music diva Makhadzi to the exciting line-up for the Africa Music Festival UK 2023 set for August 26 at the Nelson Mandela Park in Leicester.
The move comes after the event suffered a major crisis of confidence when Chimurenga music icon Thomas Mapfumo pulled out of the show citing major differences with organisers.
Although Y2K has previously dodged questions from this publication about the matter, the promoters confirmed in a press statement that Mapfumo was no longer part of the act.
Makhadzi has been a hit among Zimbabweans after releasing a track titled Kokovha, which features Jah Prayzah.
The two also featured together in the song Dzima.
Makhadzi, supported by Amapiano duet Fortunator SA and Sedii Moshounyane, will perform alongside Zimbabwe superstars Winky D and Jah Prayzah, with Selmor Mtukudzi, Mambo Dhuterere and UK-based Shingai – Noisettes and Qounfuzed also making appearances at the eagerly awaited concert.
“Thomas Mapfumo recently dissociated himself from the festival and although we tried to find common ground we were not able to agree on the changes that he wanted us to make to the initial mutually agreed and signed contract. This left us with no option, but to respect his decision,” said Y2K Entertainment in a statement.
“If it’s not for Makhadzi’s unmatched energy levels and stage presence, then it’s for her anthemic sing-alongs that put many fans in a trance.
