IRELAND-BASED Zimbabwean actress Nyaka Chana

IRELAND-BASED Zimbabwean actress Nyaka Chana, who is the head judge of the World Monologue Games is rallying behind Africans, particularly Zimbabweans, to shine at this year's edition.

World Monologue Games (WMG) is an online global acting competition open to professional and budding actors from anywhere in the world to participate from their homes.

Last year, the competition attracted interests from contestants in 55 countries.

The deadline for submissions for the season 4 of the WMG is July 4 and Nyaka Chana is proud of how Africans have fared during the past editions, especially the resilience exhibited by Zimbabwean contestants.

“African countries have been doing quite well this past season and every year more and more countries take part,” she said.

“I was happy to see Ivory Coast and Ghana last season which shows the growth of the games.

“Zimbabwe has brought such pride and joy to my heart.

“There are some contestants who never give up and keep coming back every season.”

She encouraged contestants to excel at the global showpiece.

“Don’t be put off by others and like I always say there are no losers, just taking part and waving your national flag makes you a champion already. Don’t compare yourselves with others,” Nyaka Chana said.

“I still encourage more contestants to register and most people are not even aware that there is early bird free entry, so please take advantage of this.

“Entry is open to absolutely everyone; I encourage individuals and schools to enter their students. Here is an opportunity to been seen worldwide.”

According to the actress, the World Monologue Games are a pedestal for any budding artiste to propel their career.

“This is a platform whereby casting directors, producers, scouts and many more industry professionals frequent so there is a high chance for you to be noticed and who knows where it might take you; not limited to a possible Oscar winning role,” she said.

“For kids this can lead to studying opportunities and a shortcut to that possible acting career.”

The WMG features six categories that are, Tigers (Under 12), Youth (Under 18), Amateurs, Professionals, Sprint (60 seconds) and Endurance (up to 10 minutes).

The versatile Nyaka Chana boasts of a wealth of experience in theatre, film and television.

It remains to be seen if Zimbabwean actors will tap into her successful career.
